History of the Foundation
The Oglesby Foundation was begun in 1993 by friends who wanted to honor Robert & Willora Oglesby for 30 years of ministry at the Waterview Church of Christ in Richardson, Texas.
Jack Evans, a former Dallas mayor, assisted by Danny Hawk, conceived the foundation to honor the Oglesbys and to help students who aspired to be preachers. This was significant because Robert lost his father while studying to become a preacher. The struggle to finish his education was a difficult path. Despite those hurdles, Robert finished his training and began a preaching career, which included 52 years in the pulpit of the Waterview church in Richardson, where he continues to serve on the ministerial staff.
Since 1993, over 400 scholarships have been awarded. Only one scholarship is awarded per student, per calendar year. These scholarships begin at $1000 and can be increased with satisfactory academic progress and active ministry involvement. Since the inception of this fund, we have been able to provide well over $500,000 in scholarships to aspiring preachers.
We have been blessed by the gifts and memorial donations of a number of generous donors. The momentum of gifting and investment has built a fund of over $825,000. The Foundation is committed to passing the income each year into scholarships for students who have a heart for ministry.
